Kumbh Mela 2025 Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh: The grand Maha Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, is set to begin on January 13, 2025, coinciding with the full moon of the Paush month. The Yogi government has ensured that no pilgrim or visitor will go hungry during this religious event. Extensive preparations have been made to offer free ration and organize mass meal distributions (Bhandaras) for all attendees.
Issuance of New Ration Cards for Pilgrims
To facilitate the free ration distribution during the Kumbh Mela, new ration cards will be issued to Kalpwasis (those observing a religious vow during the mela) and other pilgrims staying in the mela grounds. With these ration cards, visitors will be able to collect free ration supplies. Moreover, existing ration cardholders will also receive free supplies by presenting their cards to the authorities.
Cost and Setup for Ration Distribution
The government's initiative is expected to cost around INR 43 crores. To implement this, 160 fair-price ration shops will be set up across the mela grounds. Officials from the Food and Logistics Department have planned to distribute ration to cardholders twice during the mela. To streamline operations, five large storage warehouses will also be established in the area.
Provision of Cooking Gas for Visitors
In addition to basic food supplies like grains and sugar, pilgrims and Kalpwasis will also have access to cooking gas within the mela grounds. LPG cylinder outlets will be set up for convenient access. With an estimated temporary population of nearly 1 million during the month-and-a-half-long event, continuous meal services will be organized to ensure no one goes without food.
