Devprayag is a holy town of Uttarakhand at an altitude of 2723 Ft. This small & the ancient town is the formation point of the sacred Ganga River with the confluence of Bhagirathi & Alaknanda River. Religiously, the site is highly sacred and holds enormous significance among Hindus all over the world.
Devprayag is one of Panch Prayag of Uttarakhand. As per the religious belief, Lord Rama did pind-daan of his father at Devprayag. Moreover, there is also an ancient temple of Lord Raghunath. The temple was built more than ten thousand years ago. The temple is one of the 108 Divya Desam of Lord Vishnu. Also, there is a natural water spring called Baitalshila. The spring has medicinal powers to cure skin disease as believed.
Earlier, Devprayag was the starting point of Chardham Yatra of Uttarakhand. Still, most of the Purohits (Priests) of Badrinath stays at Devprayag. The holy town is the confluence point of two holy rivers of Uttarakhand. The Alaknanda comes from Badrinath & The Bhagirathi comes from Gangotri. The confluence of both rivers forms river Ganga from here.
Devprayag has located at Rishikesh-Badrinath highway at 95 km from Haridwar. The nearest airport is Dehradun at a distance of 87 km. The nearest railway station is Rishikesh at 72 km. The drive from Haridwar to Devprayag is pass through Rishikesh & also along with the holy river Ganga.
The town can be accessed over the year. Usually, the weather remains cool and pleasant even during summers.
