Alopi Devi temple is located in Alopibagh on the road to Triveni Sangam & close to the Sangam. Also, the temple is close to the Kumbh Mela area. It is the 18th and holiest Shakti Peeth in India.
The Alopi Devi Temple does not have any deity inside. The finger of Goddess Sati fell to the ground after the Sudarshan Chakra of Lord Vishnu cut it. The Goddess Sati’s finger fell here and immediately vanished into a pit. So instead of a statue, there is a swinging palna/doli as a symbol of the Goddess.
It is extremely crowded during Navrati and other festive days. Also, Devotees and one must wait for Darshan for hours in the temple. In respect, devotees fold their hands and touch and swing this Doli by his hand or forehead.
Aside from the main sanctum, there is another GODDESS DURGA GALLARY on the temple’s right side. The statues of Goddess Durga’s nine incarnations can be found here.
Many Hindu rituals are performed here. The most well-known is the Mudan ceremony (head tonsuring) of a child.
